Royale Brothers

The first thought that came to me as I munched down of this delightful burger was – “this tastes like a Whopper with cheese and bacon” (My old go to hangover cure from my Uni days). Now, I should probably expand on this thought. Don’t get me wrong, the Bacon Royale doesn’t actually taste like a Hungry Jacks Whopper with cheese and Bacon (WCB). What it does taste like is the way I imagine the WCB will taste like when I am starving and/or hung over and dreaming of a burger. It’s like the perfect version. This is a good thing, trust me. Forget about how crap the Whoppers taste these days now that they are microwaved, and imagine a really really good version and that’s pretty much what the Bacon Royale is.

For me, this was a good fast food burger done well. The patty was nice – not great,  nice enough and fairly juicy considering it was cooked well done and was reasonably thin. In hind sight I’d probably go the double as I was still a little peckish afterwards. The pickles were really good, apparently they get them in from the States in these big jars that they had on display – I wonder if I can get my hands on one of these bad boys? The buns were what they called a milk bun – My wife felt that it was a really American tasting bun, and I’d have to agree. There was more than enough sauce to make the eating in the car a mildly dangerous proposition for my jeans. Luckily I thought ahead and was already wearing a pair sporting grease stains – I’m smart like that!  Overall, a really solid burger that I will definitely be going back to try again.

  1. Roger says:

looks like too much lettuce to me!!

  2. I’m going to say that it’s not a great angle on the first photo. If you look at the halfway eaten shot, there’s not all that much. Personally, I think the lettuce should be on the bottom of the Burger for better stability and easy of eating.

  3. Went back today as I was in the area – Had the bacon Royale again – still enjoyable. However I think I’d like it more if they cooked the bacon more and used the streaky kind – I wanted it to be crispy and smokey, not reminiscent of ham…
